The beat of the drum is more than to just get your feet moving – drumming heals. Rooted in indigenous cultures for millennia, drumming has been used to treat a variety of ailments. The challenge is to incorporate these ancient wisdom practices with modern-day Chinese medicine. The five elements of Chinese medicine act as a bridge to bring these two medicines together. The elements contain both shamanic and classical Chinese medicine aspects and these perspectives are intertwined to realize their use clinically.

Each of the five elements is associated with a specific drum beat to strengthen the organs, treat disease patterns, and balance the emotions. For example, the earth rhythm benefits digestion, improves the metabolism, and stabilizes the qi. 

These beats along with the Shamanic Journey beat benefit body functions. The Shamanic Journey Beat is a classic steady beat used over the millennia to improve health. The beat rolls in a trance like way connecting the listener with Mother Earth and Father Sky. The vibrations of the drum resonate through the tissues and organs, open the acupuncture channels, and activate the body’s healing ability.   

Throughout the recording, CT plays an elk skin hoop drum, an African djembe, and the classic Chinese thunder drum. The first half of the CD includes explanations of the various symbols related to the rhythms along with the drum beats. The second half of the CD, features the drum rhythms on their own.
